I remember the first time I heard Black Hole Sun. It was the mid-nineties, MTV, and something about the combination of those visuals, that guitar, and the sheer power of his voice stopped me cold. It sounded like nothing I had ever heard before.

Chris Cornell had that effect on people. Widely regarded as one of the greatest voices in the history of rock, his range and delivery were as commanding as his presence. There was an intensity to him that you couldn’t look away from – which is exactly why I had to draw him.

This straight-on portrait in charcoal tries to capture that. The gaze that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. The weight of a voice you can almost hear just by looking at him.
