Brego

Not everything I draw is a musician. Sometimes it’s a horse from Middle-earth.

Brego is Aragorn’s horse in The Lord of the Rings – wild and grief-struck, calmed only by a gentle word. I’ve always loved that idea: real strength answering to kindness, not force. In charcoal, all of it lives in the set of the neck and the look in the eye.

The truth is, the dark ones are the hardest. Get the light wrong on a black coat and it falls flat and lifeless. Get it right and the whole animal breathes.

The original’s found its home. The prints carry on.
